Emergency Ortho Care

At Knoxville Orthodontics

It is important to maintain both the health of your smile and your orthodontic appliance over the course of your treatment. If your appliance has come off or become damaged, please call us as soon as possible to schedule a visit with one of our orthodontists. To learn more about emergency orthodontic care in Knoxville, Tennessee, please call Knoxville Orthodontics at (865) 522-7572 and schedule an appointment with Dr. Kristin Knierim.

Orthodontic emergencies can happen when you least expect them, and it can be difficult to know how best to handle them. The most important thing to do is contact our office as soon as you can so we can get you in to see one of our orthodontists. But if you need relief from pain or discomfort before you can get into our office, check out some of these tips for common ortho emergencies:

  • Loose Brackets or Bands: You may need to slide a bracket off before coming into our office. Make sure not to lose any components of your appliance.
  • Poking Wires or Wire Irritations: Push the wire to a more comfortable position using an eraser. You can also cover the end of a wire with cotton or wax to relieve irritation. If absolutely necessary, you can trim a wire using nail clippers that have been washed and sterilized with alcohol.
  • Lost Separators: Make sure to call our office immediately so we can get you a replacement.
  • Lost Aligners: If you have your most recent set of aligners, wear those until you are able to come into our office. Do not jump ahead to the next set if you have them.

If you have any questions about your particular situation, please do not hesitate to ask us! We are happy to help you be as comfortable as possible until we can get your smile back on track. Call (865) 522-7572 if you need us!
